How to drain (empty) a spa by gravity if you do not have a submersible pump

When you want to empty your spa by gravity for the first time, you need to find the drain valve first.

Take it out of the spa by carefully pulling on it with pliers, then unscrew it. Afterward, you can connect a conventional garden hose and you will notice that the water does not come out instantly. It is to prevent the water to flow on you once you remove the lid and while you connect your hose.

If you carry out the manipulations for the first time, there will be a resistance when you will try to release the valve. Use a flat-head screwdriver and detach the junction to release the valve. Do not pull the hose, it could damage your spa valve.

Emptying a spa by gravity can take a few hours, therefore you should plan this in advance mainly if you are doing it during colder days. You must prevent any ice from forming in the spa’s pipework once the spa is empty.

You could also get hold of a submersible pump in one of our Trévi stores if you want to do the work faster.
