Garden furniture: How to choose the right dining set

This summer, share good meals with family and friends in a comfortable décor you like. Find out about the different elements to consider when choosing a quality dinner set.

A pleasant way to enjoy summer is to have a barbecue and share a meal with friends. You need to have a nice setup to have a drink, relax, welcome guests and have enough room to do so. To create a more intimate atmosphere, you have to setup a space that suits your needs and is functional at the same time.

You can go for a teak table, a fine wood that is beautiful and warm. Teak is the most popular wood used to build outdoor furniture. It is a fine-grained hardwood that comes from tropical Asia that withstands very well Quebec weather. It doesn’t chip either. The only thing that could change is the colour of the wood. Teak is the only type of wood that insects dislike. Also, it resists mildew and is rot-proof. Thus, it is a long-term investment. The table can either be entirely made of teak or you can choose a model with white legs for a totally different look. Teak can spend the winter outside. However, it is important to lift it from the ground, so the legs are not covered with snow all winter long. You can choose the table and chairs and make a mix-and-match with other models. For example, you can select a chair made of synthetic rattan which is a synthetic polymer. One of this resin characteristic is that it always goes back to its original shape thanks to its molecular memory. This material is UV resistant and colour fast. The colour is integrated and solid since the fibre is dyed before being woven.

There are also tables with tempered glass top, a material that adds a great touch of elegance and delicacy. It is a very strong and safe glass similar to that of a car windshield. When shopping, it is important to check the glass thickness. At Trévi, we offer 10 mm tempered glass that makes it a very strong product. Tempered glass is also a functional and easy to clean material. You could match your table with textilene chairs, that is a resin-coated polypropylene with a molecular memory that always goes back to its initial shape and is UV resistant. If you choose a design without cushions, the chair will dry faster and you will be able to sit on it when you come out of the pool with a wet bathing suit.

A third option is the Polybois table which is made of a strong material that requires no maintenance. For more strength, select a model with an extruded aluminum structure, that is bent and compressed aluminum. You can leave this table outside through summer and winter whether it snows or rains. Polybois is colour fast and UV resistant. You can clean it using with a cloth and mild soap.

Steel is a good option when the product needs to be stronger like thin chair legs or a swing. However, choose a high-quality steel such as galvanized steel coated with an aluminum or zinc paint to protect it against rust.

The key to making the right choice is to try both table and chairs before buying them. Hence, you will know if they are comfortable and if table and chair sizes suit you. According to your budget and the style you look for, you can choose identical chairs or add armchairs for more comfort.

To enjoy a comfortable pleasant summer, shop for garden furniture made of different materials and keep in mind your needs and the space available in your backyard. Bon appétit!
